I am currently the Chief Network Architect for the Janet network, operated by Jisc, the UK’s National Research and Education Network (NREN). I have been working on Janet since 1999 after spending a few years as a System and then Network administrator at a University in London.

My role is fairly wide, from the fibre in the ground, through the transmission and IP layers, to monitoring our peering and transit, and up to keeping an eye on regulatory developments, and working with other NRENs to deliver R&E connectivity for projects large and small.
My first RIPE meeting was RIPE 39 in Bologna in 2001 (where I gave a presentation about generating prefix lists using RtConfig), and I’ve been a regular participant since then. I have previously co-chaired the Routing working group and I was a Trusted Contact before the Code of Conduct team was in place. I am currently co-chair of the NCC Services working group.
